As reported by Merseyside Police fake £20 notes have been found to be in circulation in Hoylake and West Kirby. The police report:
Local shop keepers have reported they are receiving £20 notes and then realising afterwards that they are counterfeit. Consequently, we are urging the public to check their £20 notes before accepting them.
There are two serial numbers to look out for, the first is AE17687534 and the second is AL27448990. If you are in a shop and you are given one of these £20 notes as change, hand it back to the shop keeper and ask them for alternative change.
If you realise at a later time that you have a counterfeit £20 then please hand it in to any bank.
If you have any information regarding counterfeit money or any crime then please contact us on 0151 709 6010 or alternatively you can contact crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Thanks to friends at the Red Cross shop in Hoylake who had been tipped off about a couple trying to use fake £20 notes at their Moreton Branch. This information was kindly passed on to all the Hoylake charity shops. The list of fake numbers is getting rather long!
