The BBC are back in town again! Not for a 3 Sisters follow-up but for filming of a new comedy called Candy Cabs.ΓΒ The show will star Claire Sweeney (formerly Brookside) and Jo Joyner (formerly Eastenders) amongst others and is presumably about a cab company.
Filming has been taking place on North Parade and I think they’ll be there again tomorrow. Ian Hazlehurst (Hoyle Blinds) has told me that they were also filming at that cafe in Coronation Park in West Kirby on Monday. I think they are stopping traffic on the prom at some points during the day, so maybe expect minor delays.
Mark Cunningham also pointed out there’s more photos and information in this Daily Mail article.
I think I’m right in saying that the last comedy to be filmed on the prom was Watching back in the 1980’s at Meols …who remembers that then?
Richard McIntyre says
My wifeand I enjoyed Watching years ago.I do not remember who carried it them. We have a cable channel, that shows” Brit coms” , Mon thru Friday at eight pm. On monday and Wed. they showone hour dramas and comidies, such as Blue Murder,Murder in Suberbia Doc Martin, Darling Buds of May. The half hour shows rangefrom Last of the summer wine, to Only when I laugh and Yes MInister both series. The only one we have not liked was Eyes Down and Fun at the Funeral Parlour
Richard McIntyre says
My coment was about the series Watching, not the cab show not made ofcourse

I do remember Watching when it was televised, but first saw it on stage at the Liverpool Playhouse where they tried out productions before general release or in this case before it went to TV.
I also remember in the TV show when the couple went ‘Bird Watching’ it was filmed on Gayton/Burton marches.

I watched Candy Cabs last night- wonder how many viewers it got. What did everybody think of it? it was fun for me as an exile looking for the Hoylake and West Kirby locations.
Peter Wilson says
The locations were the only good thing about it…!
Sue says
Yes I agree- will watch agin in case story line picks up. Must say sunset at Red Rocks looked fabulous.
Peter Wilson says
Yes, I agree Red Rocks was the highlight. The aerial shot of The King’s Gap roundaboput was good too. No idea why they had an aerial shot of Birkenhead though…
Unfortunately the writer was interviewed on Radio 4 recently and said it was set in West Kirby with no mention of Hoylake (or Lymm come to that).
I just checked the TV critic’s piece in The Times today. It was unenthusiastic and he seemed to believe that it’s set in Southampton for some reason..!
Stu Rankin says
An actress from the show said they enjoyed ‘costa’ weather and she thought the beaches were beautifully quiet and everyone had a great time during filming .
mark hunt says
I enjoyed watching this
Sue Wray says
I watched the first episode of Candy Cabs, and I thought, ‘what a lovely location, I would really like to live there’….and then I realised that I already do!!
