Have you noticed the new banners along Market Street?
There are now 16 colourful banners featuring images relating to Hoylake fixed to the street lamps along the top end of Market Street. They went up last weekend and are the result of a project organised by local community interest company Hoylake Village Life and with the help of Wirral Council. The banners have been sponsored by local, Hoylake shops, businesses and organisations.
I’d like to hear what you think of them so please do leave a comment below.

We are waiting for the ‘uplighters’ to be switched on so the banners will add some vibrant colour to Market Street during the evenings too.

Fine for a one one off event but as a permanent fixture?
Personally I think Hoylake looks better without the plastic. If the objective is to raise awareness of local events etc then would it not make sense to spend the money to market them outside the local area? We already know what happens in Hoylake.

It is very likely that the banners will be changed when there is a major event in Hoylake. The cost of production and installation of the banners is too high to be viable for most smaller scale ‘one off’ events.
So, the option is to have nothing on the lampposts for years between major events, which some people may prefer, or to try and use the existing facility to bring some colour and animation to Market Street and hopefully encourage an increase in footfall which will benefit local businesses.
There was broad support for using the facility and this project was in response to that.
Hoylake Village Life, a group of local volunteers, produced the banners with the support of local businesses and Wirral Council. We are also working on organising and promoting events and indeed promoting Hoylake itself more widely, through the website hoylakevillage.org.uk, local and national press releases for events, email newsletters and more.
So, the banners are just part of a wider promotion effort to help Hoylake’s regeneration.

I like them; it brightens up the street; something I’d like to see more of; as this facility hasn’t been used since The Open; let’s use these ‘new’ lighting poles and uplighters to full effect.

I do hope that the banners have not replaced the Christmas Lights as they are on the post that accomodated the lighted Christmas Frames. The blue lights that go accross the road were provided by the Council and the residents of Hoylake like the Christmas Lights and have been making donations in the boxes in the shops in the expectation of having lights through the festive season in the road not in shops.
