In a complete change of weather from last week, Monday in Hoylake has been cool and very windy. It’s causing minor issues too – windblown sand is drifting onto the promenade and is building up in places. The picture above shows the junction of Trinity Road and the promenade with a big pile of drifted sand. There are also a few banks of sand against the walls of several houses on the prom too. Last year I recall that numerous patches of sand weren’t cleared and were left for several months – I presume it’s the responsibility of the council to clear it?
Can anyone confirm ..am I right in thinking that you’re not allowed to clean up the sand yourself and put it back on the beach?
Pat Ireland says
By the time the picture was taken the sand had been flattened quite a lot – but initially it was terrible and I actually got stuck in it. It was deeper than I realised and at that time – because not many cars had gone through it – the wheels just wouldn’t grip – and I heard later in the day that apparently I hadn’t been the only one..
The council do have “funny” ideas about the removal of the sand but as you say are very slow to move it especially from the gateways of some of the residents – especially 3 or 4 nearer the old school.
