Wirral Council has granted planning permission for a Subway sandwich store in Hoylake.
The decision will not be universally welcomed with locals – the comments on my original post indicate that some people are for the shop, while others aren’t. Now that planning permission has been granted, what do you think? A welcome investment in an empty Hoylake shop or another fast-food outlet that the village doesn’t need/want? Have your say in the comments below.
There a couple of changes in other shops and restaurants along Market Street:
- The Co-op is undergoing a refurb and as such is currently closed
- The Athena’s Greek restaurant that closed recently is to reopen soon as another restaurant under a new name
- The Antep Turkish restaurant is I understand closed and is reopening as a Mediterranean style restaurant
- There’s a new children’s clothing shop opening soon (opposite Hoyle Road)
Gutted about the turkish. It was always empty but the food was incredible. We regularly got takeaways and it was 5* quality. I hope the new place are the same people.
I’m surprised I didn’t see the ladies of hoylake marching the streets looking for signatures. I’m guessing they will call for a boycott instead haha.
They will never have the quality of Quirky or Flavours… Or for that matter, the friendliness! Corporate, chain rubbish!
Delighted to be the resident living directly above smelly Subway (NOT!!!!) Although I am assured that “smell” we al recognise (& detest) is enhanced through a fan and projected on to the street to entice customers and this wont be happening in Hoylake! Can’t wait to sit out on my balcony to the rear of the building and have the actual aroma of their awful bread being baked on site wafting our way! Money quite clearly talks in this instance!!
Obviously hoylake is too highbrow for such an outlet…seriously folks get over yourselves. this is classic hoylake snobbery…
Not snobbery at all – indeed, although I dislike chains, when in Liverpool, as there is not really any alternative, I do frequent them for my lunch, but Hoylake has enough independent eateries, and my fear is that Subway will loss-lead until the independents have been forced out of business, as is the business practice of a lot of chains.
RE:Subway. I think it s a fantastic addition to Hoylake to be fair. Subway is a franchise which means someone has invested their money into our area ( Not a massive corporation just the backing from them), employing a further 10 staff or so as well. I just hope it is someone local and if so good luck to them 🙂
