Hoylake Community cinema are delighted to be screening one of cinema’s classic movies – the 1970s hit Saturday Night Fever – on Friday 26 June at The Parade Community Centre, Hoylake. The combination of John Travolta’s charismatic dance moves and the Bee Gee’s soundtrack make the movie a must-see event.

Cinema spokesman Julian Priest said, “This is a great opportunity to see this exhilarating film on the big screen. This is disco at its best and no one does it like Travolta. Here’s the chance to re-live those golden days, so white suits on gents!”

The film tells the story of nineteen-year-old Brooklyn native Tony Manero who lives for Saturday nights at the local disco, where he’s king of the club, thanks to his stylish moves on the dance floor. But outside of the club, things don’t look so rosy. At home, Tony fights constantly with his father and has to compete with his family’s starry-eyed view of his older brother, a priest. Nor can he find satisfaction at his dead-end job at a small paint store. However, things begin to change when he spies Stephanie Mangano in the disco and starts training with her for the club’s dance competition. Stephanie dreams of the world beyond Brooklyn, and her plans to move to Manhattan just over the bridge soon change Tony’s life forever.

The soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever was no. 1 for 18 weeks in the UK album chart, and features seven Bee Gee songs, including “Stayin’ Alive”, “Night Fever”, “More Than a Women” and “Jive Talkin’ “. The album went on to sell over 30 million copies worldwide.
