Queens Park in Hoylake has for the first time been awarded a Green Flag.
The Green Flag Award Scheme (website) recognises and rewards the best green spaces in the country. Queens Park joins nearby Meols Park and Ashton Park in West Kirby with a first award.
The park has seen several improvements in the last couple of years with a revamped play area with replacement apparatus and a brand new climbing trail. The Queens Park Tea Room opened last year offering light refreshments. Railings and gates have been repainted, new benches have been installed, lighting has been fixed and flowers and hedges have been planted.
Mike Foster, Chair of the Friends of Hoylake and Meols in Bloom group, whose efforts have much improved the park commented: “This is amazing news for everyone who has been involved in transforming Queens Park over the last few years; local people and businesses that have given their time and services free of charge to make it a local park to be proud of. Receiving the Green Flag for the first time feels like a just reward for this hard work and we can’t wait to see it flying over the park.â€
I’m so pleased to read this, Queens Park was my favourite place to take the children when they were small as we lived over the road in Carlton Terrace. Last time I was there it was very run down so I’ll have to call in next time we come fora visit. My parents Bell and Mick Wilson loved to play bowls on this green. Happy memories! Thank you.
