This is a smashing old postcard (it’s currently on ebay) capturing a moment in time at the Hoyle Road slipway.
You can’t tell if the Hoylake Parade building had been built (1909) but Hoyle Road appears to be sand hills. If only that entrance block (?) to the Parade Gardens was still there!
There’s a bit going in this photo: child at the water fountain, people chatting in the background and on the bench, man in the large fishing boat, couple of dogs about.
If you know what exactly that building was please do leave a comment.
Paul Doleman says
The building was a toilet block and shelter
Peter Wilson says
Quite grand but it was the public loos! It doubled as a shelter house with seats to escape the breeze and was altogether a much grander affair than those just demolished at the bottom of Trinity Road.

Yes, Sid Bird recently put a photo on W.I.O.P. of this location but taken from a very different angle and not as good quality as this photo, I would suggest that you put it on W.I.O.P. as it is of great interest locally.

Syd Bird recently put a similar photo of this location on W.I.O.P. (but taken from a totally different perspective) and I also asked about the building and he confirmed it was the public toilets.
You should try and put it on W.I.O.P as it is such a good quality photo and will arouse a lot of public interest.

I just walked along the promenade, on the sea-side of bowling green etc, for first time in many years and noticed that the rows of seats built into the wall have all (long) gone.
What a pity – I enjoyed their use back in courting days and also remember sitting, listening to Uncle Stan giving it the full beans with his religious revival show – great memories but WHY (and when, for interest) did they remove the seats, replacing them with simple fencing??
John Curd says
cann0t keep up with the changes.
