And now for something completely different!
The topic for this weeks Friday Photo is right up-to-date and although it isn’t a stunning image of Hoylake I’d like to think it captures an aspect of everyday life in 2010.
It’s the door to the launderette – the one at the bottom end of Market Street, inbetween Manor Road and Lee Road. As you can see “horse blankets must not be washed or dried in these machines”. I should have popped in and enquired whether that’s for hygiene reasons or because horse hair blocks the washing machines …but I had my dog with me and he’d only make a problem with animal hair much worse! Note the other sign about the washing of football and rugby kits is at owners risk …maybe a few number 9 shirts have shrunk on previous occasions?
The other launderette on Market Street is called the Hoylake Washeteria (pictured) and due to ill-health the business is up for sale with a local estate agents.
Presumably Hoylake has seen other launderettes come and go over the years? Don’t forget that the now empty Heap & Partners buildings were once the premises of the Hoylake Laundry Company (at least I think that’s they were).
Anyones memory jogged? Feel free to leave a comment.
