BBC One were filming in Hoylake and West Kirby today for a new Jimmy McGovern drama entitled Reg.
Crews were behind Manor Road station early this morning as filming took place at the bottom of Newton Road. The drama is based upon the true story of Reg Keys who lost his son in the Iraq War and subsequently stood as an independent candidate against then PM Tony Blair in Blair’s own constituency of Sedgefield. You can read more about the background to the drama in this BBC press release.
Residents of Newton Road received a letter earlier this week from the film production company asking if residents could “avoid” the end of road on Wednesday morning. When I went down the road I was also asked to avoid the filming area but I did luckily manage to capture one of the stars of the drama, Tim Roth (second on right), in my photo above. Acclaimed actress Anna Martin Maxwell also stars in the drama. In chatting to a location manager I gather the filming clashed with the morning school run to Holy Trinity.

Filming was also taking place at the end of Westbourne Road, West Kirby at around lunchtime.

Sadly at the end of the shoot someone has taken the computer bag belonging to the location manager and it contains his Laptop and other documents regarding further shoots
This is such sad news as it puts a cloud over Hoylake
