On 18 December 1892 The Nutcracker was given its premiere at the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg. Now, 122 years later, on 14 December 2014, we are thrilled to be screening it at Hoylake Community Cinema!
Cinema spokesman Mark Howard said: “We are delighted and extremely privileged to have obtained a licence to screen this wonderful ballet performed by the world-class Mariinsky Theatre (formerly the Kirov Ballet). It is an exceptional opportunity for the whole family to experience a top-rate performance in a local venue, alongside friends and neighbours. This is a first for Hoylake Community Cinema, and we hope it will lead to screenings of live streamed opera, ballet and theatre in the future.â€
The Nutcracker is a magical story. What more could a young girl ask for at Christmas than for all her dreams to come true? Having crept downstairs at midnight to play with her new Nutcracker doll, Clara is swept up in a fantasy of toy soldiers, giant rats, snow fairies, magic and mystery. After saving her beloved Nutcracker from the King of the Rats, she is whisked away to an enchanted land and dances the night away in his arms, meeting a host of strange and exotic characters, before she is finally transformed into a beautiful ballerina. The night passes in a blur and she wakes up on Christmas morning, at the foot of the Christmas tree, with memories that will stay with her forever, as the memory of this amazing production will stay with everyone who sees it.

I have tickets for The Nutcracker next Sunday but see that the doors open at 4.30pm but the film does not start until 6pm. Do I need to be there for 4.30pm or is 5.45pm ok? What time is the film ending please as I have smallish children with me?
