Merseyside Police is appealing for information following a confrontational burglary in Hoylake on Monday, 9 January.
At about 10.25pm five males entered a house on Dovedale Road armed with a sword. The males confronted the residents of the property and demanded cash. The males then left the property with an amount of cash and a mobile phone from one of the residents.
Although uninjured the residents have been left very shaken following the incident.
The offenders are described as being aged in their late teens or early twenties of proportionate build with local accents. All five males were wearing dark coloured clothing and had their faces covered. One of the males was wearing a grey charcoal tracksuit with the bottoms tucked into black socks.
Enquiries are ongoing and CCTV is being examined from the scene.
Detective Sergeant Mark Watson, said: “We are appealing to anyone who may have seen males acting suspiciously near to this address around this time to contact us with any information they may have.
“We are determined to catch those responsible for this offence. I would urge any members of the public with information regarding this incident to contact us. High visibility patrols have been stepped up in the area following the incident.
“We will not tolerate this kind of crime on Merseyside and urge anyone who may know these men, or may have any information, to call us so we can put them before the courts and bring them to justice.”
Anyone who may have information about either incident or the offenders is asked to contact Merseyside Police on 0151 777 2265 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

I hope they catch these thugs. Problem is if they do they will only get a slap on the wrist. Then will come the rehabilitators. They are underprivileged, a brocken home, on drugs ect. The only way to treat these people is with proper justice. Think of the inocent people in the house. As for police being more visible, the horse has already bolted. If the police stopped hiding to catch motorists for being 3mph over the limit, it would be resources better spent.

I really do hope that the increased patrols in the area are Police officers, not to be confused with Police Community Support officers.
I can assure you that the criminal community are fully aware of the difference between a Police officer and a PCSO.
I feel that Meols, Hoylake and West kirby is short changed when it comes to policing. This is not by any means criticism of Police officers, it is simply a fact that once the neighbourhood station in Hoylake is closed for the night, the area is policed by “response” patrols only, usually from Upton.
All residents of the area should be asking questions of their MP about Policing levels.
Questions should be asked of the Hoylake Neighbourhood Inspector/ Sergeant about targeted patrols. High visibility patrols may reassure the majority of public but plain clothes, targeted patrols, stop and search and community assistance could prevent future crimes of this nature.
Everyone can play their own small part in reducing/preventing crime and disorder. If you feel the need, pick up the phone and call the Police, it’s a service we all pay for. I would encourage people to use the new non-urgent police number of 101, if the Police are not aware of a problem, how can they respond/prevent it.

The police station closes at night???. Wow! I cant imagine that happening in Los Angeles. XXX

Worse than that Ronnie I don’t think they have a police station anymore. When I was a child growing up in Hoylake the police station was pretty much redundant, the big story when I came home from London one year was that they had had their flower boxes trashed. Fast forward 20 years and times change. I also live in the uS and can’t imagine not having the police very close at hand. Different places and different times…….
