A gem of an old photo kindly sent in by Syd Bird. It is of course the original Kings Gap Hotel as viewed from Stanley Road. It’s all rather grand don’t you think? By the way, that original part of the hotel has been retained within the redevelopment and some the original veranda remains. Oh, the garden wall is still there too.
Just me or is there an eeriness to those hooded horse riders? And who is in charge of that dog?

It is such a great shame that the Owners of this beautiful building have decided in their wisdom to replace it with the grey monstrosity that is now taking shape…….I am just hoping that the parts that resemble an open prison at the moment may have the benefit of some sort of decorative outer shell upon completion.

What a stunning photograph! So elegant and evocative. It has many of the the qualities of Lartigue… but is obviously of much humbler origin. Think the riders are wearing headscarves, but it is odd how far over on to the “wrong ” side of the road they and the cyclist are.

I guess the lack of motorised vehicles allowed other road users to use the whole road. I wonder when it became law that we have to keep to the left?
I’d like to see the saplings in the image matched to the mature trees 🙂 I’td be amazing to findan object (tree) that had witnessed every moment since the picture was taken.
