Here’s quite possibly the best photo I’ve seen to-date of the former Royal Hotel that used to be on Stanley Road. Over two years ago I featured some other photos of the old building.
The scan is darker than the actual photo, but as it’s taken me about an hour to get the bleeding thing to work this evening that’s as good it gets!
How “posh” was The Royal? Was a 4 or 5 star hotel or wasn’t it quite so grand? On the reverse of the photo it says it was taken before the demolition of the building took place in 1958. Anyone work there?
