Here are two photos of the current demolition of the Westhaven care home in Queens Road. Thanks to Frank Baker for the photo above taken earlier in the week. The poorer quality one below is mine (of course!) taken this morning. Seems a slight shame to be knocking down these old Edwardian terraces, but if they weren’t fit for purpose some would argue (and some successfully did – here’s their plans) that they needed to be replaced.
The demolition process seems to be quite slow. I’ve noticed that the workmen are quite thoroughly sorting the rubble into piles (bricks, timber. pipes, etc) for what I presume is recycling.
Remember we discussed this old, unique house on the opposite corner of Valentia Road? Well, it’s been up for sale for a week or two. Details here. I wouldn’t be too surprised if someone fancies building a new house in the rear garden.
Sad to see Westhaven being demolished. My mother in law, Jane, spent the last few years of her life there and was lovingly cared for.
But these were handsome properties and I don’t understand why they need to be demolished.
