It was 10 years ago that the Open Golf Championships returned to Hoylake for the first time in umpteen years.
Actually, it was 10 years ago next week, but as this year’s Open is currently being held I thought I’d mention it today. Hoylake has held the Open since then, in 2014, and if it’s an eight year cycle then it’ll be back in 2022.
Tiger Woods crying, Seve Ballesteros, George Clooney in The Ship (allegedly), helicopters, hot and sunny weather, packed bars in Market Street, thousands upon thousands of spectators, coaches parked up on the prom… just some of the memories from 2006!
Who is looking forward to it coming back?
I am! I was a scorer when it was at Hoylake in 2014 – fantastic experience and in my practice session i walked the course with Tom Watson. One of my golfing heroes….
