I think I might have mentioned recently that I wouldn’t publish any more photos of Hoylake baths for a while.
Well, here’s an exception… Hoylake Baths in the snow! Exceptions can often be made for snowy photos.
I stumbled upon this photo and it’s saved on the social bookmarking site pinterest by local resident Julian Priest. Looks like it’s a photo of a photo but it’s quite atmospheric don’t you think?
You know sometimes there’s a winter swim event? For instance, in the last few years there’s been a couple of Boxing Day Dips in Marine Lake at West Kirby. Well, were there ever such events at the Hoylake pool or even in the sea?
No snow today of course as it’s been rather mild the last couple of days. I had my legs out on my lunch hour run today and I wasn’t even wearing a beanie hat (I really feel the cold). And despite it looking like it was going to chuck-it down, I didn’t get wet. Result.
It wasn’t a bad morning for the Breeze Bike Ride either, though there was probably a bit of a headwind on the ride back. If you fancy it (ladies only) there’s an evening ride next week up to West Kirby.
Right, no photos of the pool next week. Ages ago I found an old photo of a house in Valentia Road that had a bit of a story to it. Can’t for the life of me find it right now, but I’ll do some searching over the weekend and hopefully publish it next week.

Bring more on, John. I lived opposite the baths and really love to see photos.

Joyce Evans persuaded her son Andy and nephew Miles to take a dip on Boxing Day 1956 in the sea down the slipway next to the West Kirby Sailing Club . I still remember the pain we suffered but we put it down to experience !
