Hoylake Cottage’s intrepid fundraiser, Sarah Green (pictured), 38, is putting on her wetsuit and taking part in the Great North Swim, which takes place on 24th June 2012 in Lake Windermere, in the Lake District.
Sarah, who has already raised over £600 for Hoylake Cottage, will be swimming a mile in water which is only 16 degrees Celsius. It will be the first time that Sarah will have taken part in an open water event and training is going well.
Sarah said: “After Christmas, I decided that I needed a new challenge – open water swimming was it. I’ve managed to get into my wetsuit, and have been training in the sea off North Wales as well as many miles in the pool. It has been a fantastic opportunity to get a bit fitter whilst helping a cause so close to my heart. I’m hoping the Lake isn’t as choppy as the Irish Sea, and that the sharks and monsters my sons keeping teasing me about don’t materialise!”

The money raised by Sarah will go to Hoylake Cottage, a nursing centre for older people, including those with dementia. It is run by a charitable trust and aims to give the highest standard of care, including respite, intermediate and day care, to all its clients.
