Thanks to Jeff Chequer who has sent me some details about the newly formed Hoylake Model Boat Club. Jeff says:
We are a newly formed club which was started on the 1st October 2009, with at present 33 members and growing. Most members are already from other model boat clubs clubs, such as New Brighton, Wirral and Ellesmere Port. We also have members from Liverpool and the surrounding areas.
We encourage people of all ages to join, and we think of ourselves as a fun club. Boats can vary from scale models such as merchant, naval, fishing and inland pleasure vessels. These can be from small to large kit form and even scratch built models.
We meet and sail at the lake every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday, starting about 10am weather permitting. We hold meetings every second Tuesday of the month at Sheridan’s at 7.30pm (the old Black Horse pub) Wallasey Village. If anyone would like to join us, or just to bring the kids down to watch the boats on the lake, they are very welcome.
A new website is currently being published and for further information you can contact Jeff  (Club Secretary) on (0151) 606 9472

It’s great to see this back in use after so many years of waste. We drive past every Sunday on our way home from church and it’s a pleasure to see so many people around – with and without models.

When we held the Public Meeting to save the Lake we hardly dared to hope that so soon this would become such an attraction.
ATC carried out the work before the money was raised, a wonderful gesture, and with the help of the Mayor and Mayoress of Wirral, Local Residents, the Area Forum, Streetscene, and hopefully the Royal Navy we have raised just over £16,000. We need another £2,000 so please as well as admiring the Lake we hope people will keep donating to ATC Interiors Ltd. c/o Marcus James Ltd.

I spoke today with the members, at the Lake, and we are discussing grants to replace the seating, improve the area around the Lake and a shelter for the Members and Residents to enjoy the facility.
People Power can overcome difficulties if we all pull together, thanks to everyone concerned but please keep the donations coming.

It’s marvellous to hear of so many grassroots initiatives in Hoylake and I can’t wait to see the boating lake next time I visit Hoylake.
Has anyone given thought to getting a Town Council for Hoylake? They are essentially parish councils for small towns. They have limited powers and budgets but can take over things like parks, gardens, etc. It could provide a focus for real local issues in Hoylake being taken forward so long as it was not taken over by the dead hand of political parties that has seved us so badly for so long.

Judging by the results of tasks taken on by the people of HOYLAKE locle control of the area resources and parks, would be great for the town. The people seem to have an attitude of get involved, and get it done.
