The RNLI have made available the 2012 launch statistics for the whole UK service and kindly sent me the figures for our local RNLI stations.
The all-weather lifeboat (ALB) at Hoylake (station pictured – website) was launched three times during 2012, all three during the hours of darkness (RNLI terminology). One person was recorded as rescued.
The inshore lifeboat (ILB – website) at West Kirby was launched 18 times, four of which were during the hours of darkness. Eighteen people were rescued including seven under-18s.
At New Brighton RNLI there were a total of 42 launches; consisting of 34 ILB launches and 8 launches of the inshore rescue hovercraft (IRH). Eighteen launches occurred during the hours of darkness. The boat was used to rescue 12 people and the hovercraft for 6 people.
