The lightning strikes in the sky above Hoylake of Friday night also struck the ground.
Many thanks to Royal Liverpool Golf Club for these photos of scorched areas of the golf course where lightning struck on Friday night. Nobody was hurt and the scorched areas were not within the in-play area of the course. This lost golf ball wasn’t so lucky:
Apparently the strikes over Hoylake were just part over 19,500 recorded up and down the UK in a 34-hour period with the vast majority of them over Scotland. It’s estimated there are about 30,000 ground strikes every year across the UK – so Hoylake obviously makes a contribution to this year’s total.
