Here are some items of news for Hoylake:
Hoose Court
Around 18 months after I first reported the proposed, partial demolition of Hoose Court, the works have now commenced.
The building is now fenced-off and an asbestos removal firm have been working on site for around a couple of weeks now.
The building is owned by Wirral Partnership Homes, who also own the old buildings opposite the Concourse in West Kirby that are also being demolished at the moment.
It is not clear if the cleared site facing Market Street will be put to some other use or will be landscaped.
Promenade Resurfacing
The promenade has now been resurfaced from Kings Gap down to Benetts Lane. A new coating of tar has been applied on top of the existing road surface. Road markings (double yellow lines) have now been repainted. Due to strong winds, there are patches of wind-blown sand on North Parade.
Royal Landing
The Earl of Wessex (Prince Edward) paid a visit to West Kirby Residential School this Wednesday morning. He arrived by helicopter that landed at Royal Liverpool Golf Club (I think).
Hotels
Work continues at the two hotel developments in Hoylake. Steel work at the former Kings Gap Hotel has been installed and brick walls are being built. The Royal Hilbre Spa Hotel on Meols Drive is starting to look different from the outside and has had feature hardwood windows and doors fitted to the front elevation.
Bar Closed
The La Bodega bar appears to be have been closed now for several weeks. There is a notice in the window stating the premises are “closed due to an electrical fault”. Does anybody have further information? Leave a comment below.
Open Studio Tour
The closing date for this year’s Wirral Open Studio tour is 15th June. The event was formerly known as Artists In Our Midst and was based in Hoylake. Hoylake-based event organiser Micheline Robinson is inviting established Wirral artists to take part. See also WirralArt.com
Hoylake Burglar Arrested
A 44 year old man has been arrested and charged following an attempt burglary in Drummond Road Hoylake on 4th May. For further information read this Merseyside Police news item.
Stu Dewar says
Promenade Resurfacing: If you take a look at the prom near Clydesdale Road you can see that someone had left their car (if I remember rightly it was a silver coloured Chelsea tractor) parked whilst the works were going on. Instead of having it towed they just resurfaced around it leaving a patch of the old road surface. Great job.
John says
Walked past this afternoon …it’s now been patched!
Sarah and Julian says
A shame the quality generally and the patch in particular leaves something to be desired.
There’s also a bare spot in Trinity Road and Ferndale.
Julian Priest says
walking past La Bodega today I see there is now a sign suck on the glass of the entrance door offering job opportunities for Bar Staff and saying that it is due to reopen . . .
