The old Hoylake lifeboat station has been put back on the market today with an asking price of £250,000 (rightmove).
The old station has been most recently used a lifeboat museum but that closed some months ago. The property was last placed on the market in 2009. The adjacent car park (triangle of tarmac), which is owned by Wirral Council, is not included in the sale.
After the recent demise of the toilet block, (and potential Pebbles Cafe), is this an opportunity for someone to start a viable business on the promenade that might attract visitors to Hoylake?
The building was originally the target location for the proposed Beacon Cinema project, but the current proposals for that involve the old fire station in Albert Road, opposite the train station.
Your thoughts?

I passed the place today at about 12 noon and didn’t notice anything. As a new resident in Hoylake I am aghast that Hoylake is overlooked for what it is.That is: a natural environment for birds and bird lovers and photographers; artists; people who exercise (walk, run and bike without gridlock) children who can experience the sea sand and air in safety, and so is this all for financial gain? I am sorry I am clueless as to why this historic property should be sold for retired living (of which I am one). Hoylake is not being seen for what it is…not a retirement village but an oasis where young people can enjoy and be inquisitive, creative and also have a say in their future. We can’t just shrug our shoulders at this just because other things have happened. (Sorry for the rant but I am new :)) )

Very excited about this building! I hope the new owner does something amazing with it.

I hear the building didn’t sell.
I hope the council will add the triangle of land to the side, in with future plans.
I have been looking into funding a street food style cafe and bar, combined with a second hand bookshop in hoylake for some time now.
This site is perfect.

Sounds good Roger! I hope it does end up being developed into something exciting and creative like that, and not a missed opportunity again.

Thanks steven, appreciate your support. Hoping the usual crew don’t put the blockers on this.
I always get what I want though!

I’m sure that everyone in Hoylake would get behind your plans Roger – especially those who make the decisions in Melrose Hall and the local councillors.
Still think we should have a new building where the old toilet block was. The Prom needs some facilities.

Oh wow! What is happening in Hoylake? The old lifeboat station is a great building and in my opinion, deserves to be re- generated into something that reflects the local heritage. Please, please don’t let any developer knock it down. It’s decades since I left but still have massive affection. I visited the lifeboat museum on my last visit. I’ve no idea what anyone can do with toilet block that brings in revenue??? Pity that it seems cafe idea has failed. Maybe a small gallery or museum . Funding is available for many projects. Where I now live in Hampshire we’ve just successfully bid for funding for a new mini bus from a government pot to help rural communities. We are semiconductor rural but have been granted £38k. So if any grants are available to preserve a bit of Hoylakes heritage please go for it.
