It has been widely anticipated and today is has been made official – Hoylake is to host the 2014 Golf Open Championships. It will be the 12th time the Royal Liverpool Club has played to the Championships and follows the very successful 2006 event (won by Tiger Woods) that drew record crowds of some 230,000.
Paul Cassidy, captain of Royal Liverpool Golf Club, comments:
We are very proud of our club’s rich heritage and the many memorable golfing moments staged at Hoylake since our founding in 1869.
We are extremely thrilled to be invited to host The Open Championship in 2014.

Peter Wilson says
Congratulations to the RLGC on bringing a host of prestigous golfing tournaments to Hoylake over the coming 4 years; after so many years in the wilderness the ‘new generation’ of members has put their club and the town right back on the map again.
This is a golden opportunity for the regeneration aspirations. With hard work it must be possible to lever in the public investment so needed to boost the village centre and seafront, even with the inevitable public spending cuts and David Cameron’s policy to do away with the NWDA, and much needed private investment in the hospitalty, retail and services sector.
Good luck to all!
