A former Hoylake church could be redeveloped following the decision to offer the building at auction.
The former Presbyterian Church in Alderley Road (right behind Sainsbury’s Local) is being auctioned at the end of March. The guide price is £250,000 (details).
A sale of the building has been rumoured for some time. Potential uses? Well it could be used by another church. It could be demolished and the site redeveloped as apartments. Perhaps it could even be a cinema/arts centre? Planning consent will be required for change of use and parking space could be a sticking point.

I hope it is put to good use, not apartments parking in Alderley Road is awful, sometimes have to wait a few minutes when you t urn into Alderley Road, before you can drive down the road while some people wait for parking spaces for Sainsbury s. Parking anywhere in Hoylake is awful these days,
it would be nice if another church could take it over. Its a lovely church.

SO MANY memories over 76 years… christened. married. etc etc at this lovely Church. So very sad that it has come to this….Hopefully it can be nurtured by another Church…and given a new lease of life……

Agree with Sheila and Diane – a house of worship must always be a sacred site and never be demolished. Demolishing Trinity was a disgrace – though the site is still sacred land and a memorial garden. How much is the church worth? 250,000 pounds to the community? Maybe could be bought by the community! for community use. When was the last time the council refused a planning proposal and reuse of site. Make a lovely home!

I used to live opposite that church. It would be a shame for it to go.

Why not build the cinema here? The environment is less damp!

First 15 years of my life spent attending here,Mr. And Mrs. Payne, Mr Williams, Mr. Marsh, Mr. Holden, Mr. Rogen, Miss Lilwall, Miss Lloyd, Mr Roberts, Miss Roberts, Miss Nesbitt, Miss Ireland and Miss. Evans, just some of the names I recall from a long ago time. My Grandparents also attended the Sunday services so who knows how long the connection has been. It’s a sad day to see its passing, I hope it is bought by another church, and the beautiful stained glass windows remain. However I fear it will become just another sign of the times and will pass into oblivion taking with it its secrets, stories and memories .

Such happy memmories of going to Sunday school there 60+ years ago. Hope it is not changed into apartment Perhaps a cultural centre for the arts would be a better idea.

Surely the best option is to knock the church down build a new Sainsbury’s on the site, then knock the old one down to provide additional car parking. Thus alieviating the congestion on Alderley Road.I should be a Town Planner!
